Space Deviants
There's also a zip with the exe that fits the screen better if desired
Controls:
WASD - move
Left click - shoot trash collector. Once trash is collected it will orbit and then you can fire it back in the direction of the cursor by pressing left click again.
Left shift - Dash
The controls take a little getting used to as there is gravity towards the planet, but once you get the hang of it try using the planets gravity to slingshot yourself across the screen!
Game Jam Design Breakdown
Being presented with the theme we knew we wanted to create an idea that captured the essence of the theme while twisting it on its head and subverting people's expectations of what a sustainable game would look like. We came up with the idea that instead of making a game about teaching sustainability/trash collection in a way we focused on the idea of a world where Earth was overwhelmed with trash and pollution so as a way to fix their sustainability problems they would then shoot their trash in space away from earth. But what about the inhabitants of space sustaining their environment?
This is where you play from the perspective of our main character, an alien trying to stop earth from polluting their beloved home of space by sending the trash back to earth. The story of our game as well as our gameplay loop feeds into this theme as the player is in this tug of war with earth sending their trash back to them before it destroys the environment of the milky way.
There are about 30,000 objects rocketing around earth at speeds around 22,000 miles per hour that can be lethal to space travel. On top of this, the debris orbiting earth is affecting the ozone layer and contributes to global warming. We often talk about things directly on earth in regards to pollution, but what happens when we space travel becomes more common? How will we explore safe safely, especially at the rate the pollution is increasing.
